Spring Cleaning Checklist for Pet Parents

When it comes time to tackle spring cleaning, some of us break out the gloves and mops wholeheartedly, while others try to get away with as little as possible. As pet parents, we have our own unique challenges (drool-soaked chew toy anyone?) when it comes to keeping not only our homes clean, but our beloved pets as well. To help make this annual ritual a bit easier, we've compiled a cleaning cheat sheet to help keep your home spic-and-span and hopefully keep those unwanted pet smells at bay.

Urine Off gets the job done when it comes to eliminating urine stains (even old ones!) and keeping your pooch from marking his territory all over your home - making this a great training tool for young pups. The natural bio-enzymatic formula is specifically developed to 'eat' the insoluable uric acid crystals, a component of urine that binds itself to the surface and is very difficult to remove. Worried your pooch might have had an accident while you were away? The 'Urine Finder' has a special LED UV light finely tuned to find dried urine stains that are invisable to the naked eye, making it easy to find the area that requires treatment.

To help keep your home from smelling like a kennel, it's best to practice good grooming habits. Bathing once a month works for most dogs, as this will help keep unwanted dog smells from permeating through the house. Brushing your dog's coat regularly will help control all the loose fur from forming tumbleweeds in the corners of your home. And finally, help keep unfavorable dog breath away by brushing those pearly whites or using a cleansing gel for easy cleaning.

Regularly wash your pet's bedding, blankets, and any covers. This is a place where hair and dander accumulate, and could be the source of that ever-presistant pet odor.

Pet hair is not a problem with these easy-to-use tools! Created by animal lover Donna Mete, who shares her home with three cats and a dog, SwiPets combines the effectiveness of a lint roller, a wet dish glove, and vacuum. SwiPets utilizes a patent-pending, coated technology on the palm. The formula and fabric create an electro-static charge, while ‘grabbing’ the pet hair and clumping it so you can simply pull it off and throw it away! No muss, no fuss.

Chew toys, plush toys, anything that your pooch likes to chew on should get cleaned.. and if any of them have been broken, best to throw them out. It doesn't take long for a broken toy to suddenly break into many small pieces - a potential choking hazard and pain to pick up! Pet toys are a petri dish full of germs and bacteria, toss them into the washing machine every so often to help keep them clean.

Freshen your home with these odor-neutralizing soy wax candles. These soy bean wax candles are blended with odor removing enzymes that neutralizes unwanted pet, smoke, and other household odors.

Just like us, our pet's need their dishes washed too! They can get pretty grimey, so best to use vinegar to get rid of lime buildup, and wash with dishsoap regularly.

For cat owners, it's best to use litter made for multiple cats if there are more than one in the home. The unique formulation combines heavy non-tracking granules and clumping litter that prevents moisture from reaching the bottom of the tray. Cleaning the cat litter box daily is better for your cat and for the smell of your home!

Whether you need to get rid of pesky pet hair or eliminate odors, these tips are sure to help kick start your spring cleaning routine.
