Dining Tips & Common Rules for Visiting Dog-Friendly Restaurants
To help create a pleasant dining experience for you, your dog and other guests, we recommend keeping the following tips in mind before your visit.
Check the Restaurant's Arrangements Before You Visit
Each restaurant may have its own policies regarding dogs, including:
- Whether reservations are required
- Dog-friendly dining hours
- Designated dog-friendly seating areas
- Restrictions on dog size or the number of dogs per guest
We recommend checking with the restaurant before your visit for the latest arrangements.
Bring Your Dog's Essentials
- A leash
- Drinking water
- Dog food and feeding bowl
- Poop bags
- Pee pads or diapers (if needed)
- Treats or snacks
During Your Visit
By following good dog-friendly dining etiquette, we can encourage more restaurants to welcome dogs in the future.
Please remember to:
- Keep your dog on a leash no longer than 1.5 metres, held securely by an adult or safely attached to a fixed fixture where appropriate. Never allow a minor to handle your dog's leash. If you need to leave your seat temporarily, seek assistance from the restaurant staff if necessary.
- Dogs must not use the restaurant's reusable tableware or be placed on dining tables. If you wish to feed your dog, bring your own dog food, water and feeding bowl. Do not ask restaurant staff to heat your dog's food.
- Keep your dog away from food preparation areas and avoid blocking walkways, emergency exits or passageways.
- Follow the restaurant's seating arrangements. Some restaurants require dogs to remain on the floor, while others may allow dogs on designated pet mats or seats. Respect restaurant staff and other diners.
- Prevent your dog from disturbing other guests or approaching other dogs without permission.
- If your dog continues barking or becomes anxious, take it outside for a short break before returning.
- If your dog accidentally soils the premises, clean up immediately and notify the restaurant staff. Some restaurants may charge a cleaning fee where applicable.
Together, we can help build a more pet-friendly Hong Kong.
